Research Use Only
MOTS-c
MOTS-c is a synthetic 16-residue peptide supplied by Nocap Research strictly as a research chemical for qualified laboratory research use only.
What is MOTS-c?
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide with the sequence MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR, CAS registry number 1627580-64-6, molecular formula C101H152N28O22S2 and a molecular weight of about 2174.6 g/mol. Its name comes from the mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA in which it is encoded. Nocap Research supplies a synthetic version for laboratory research only.
Chemical Identity
MOTS-c, short for mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA-c, is a peptide of 16 amino acids with the sequence MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR. It is catalogued under CAS registry number 1627580-64-6 and is described by the molecular formula C101H152N28O22S2, with a molecular weight of approximately 2174.6 g/mol. The peptide is linear and unmodified, and its two methionine residues account for the sulfur in the formula. Nocap Research offers a synthetic version solely as a reference material for in vitro laboratory investigation, and nothing on this page describes an effect in humans or animals.

Origin of the Sequence
MOTS-c belongs to the class of mitochondrial-derived peptides: short peptides whose coding sequences sit within mitochondrial DNA rather than the nuclear genome. The MOTS-c sequence is encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene.
The two methionines (positions 1 and 6) and the tryptophan at position 3 are oxidation-sensitive residues, so storing the lyophilized material desiccated, cold and protected from light is particularly relevant for this sequence.
Physical Form, Handling, and Storage
The material is supplied as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder. As a laboratory reagent, lyophilized peptide is generally stored desiccated and protected from light, with long-term storage commonly at -20C or below and short-term working material at 2C to 8C. For laboratory work the powder is solubilized in a solvent chosen for the intended in vitro application. These notes describe general handling of the material as a research reagent. They are not instructions for use in humans or animals.
Purity and Certificate of Analysis
Every Nocap Research batch of MOTS-c is tested by an independent laboratory before it is listed. The current batch results are below, transcribed from the certificate of analysis. The full certificate, and a link to verify it directly with the lab, are one click away.
